Monday Morning Mail Art Call: Black and White

Black and white is classically striking in most instances. At the very least, it is crisp in its delineation.

This mail art call asks you to play with black and white, to use it to create something small that visually packs a punch.

Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: Raoul Hausmann

One of the most intriguing mail art calls I’ve found in some time, the Raoul Hausmann Anniversary Project’s theme is A Kingdom for Dada.

portrait Raoul Hausmann

You might have guessed that Raoul was a dadaist in his time. Austrian born, he moved to Germany with his family at the age of fourteen. He co-founded Club Dada in Berlin and was involved for a time with Hanna Hoch, another prominent dadaist of the movement. You can read more about him here: http://www.dada-companion.com/hausmann/ and here: http://www.artnewsnviews.com/view-article.php?article=raoul-hausmann-the-dadaist-who-redefined-the-idea-of-protests&iid=33&articleid=980

Please note that the deadline for this one is fast approaching… June 30, 2017.

Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: Tribute to Leonard Cohen

Happy Monday Morning!

Today’s mail art call is one I was glad to see. Leonard Cohen was a prolific writer, poet, singer/songwriter and musician. He was also a painter and a novelist. His work explored everything we question… religion, politics, loneliness, sexuality, and relationships, just to name a few.

When he passed in November of last year, I heard some ask, who was he? What did he do? I was stunned that there were folks who didn’t know his name, weren’t aware of his contributions. The question should be… What didn’t Leonard Cohen do? He was a true multi-potentialite before we had a name for it, before it was cool. He set the tone, he paved the way.

If you want to learn more about him, his poetry and his music I suggest starting here: http://www.leonardcohen.com/

If you are like me, you’ll want to participate in this mail art call, so without further ado, here are the details….

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: Mail A Smile

In April, I received the following message:
Dear Lynn,

and received pieces will be displayed in Budapest, Hungary in 2018.

-There is no entry fee, we do not return with replies, and there is no size limit.
-Multiple entries are welcome, and we will accept multiple pieces dedicated to each animal.
-We ask that senders indicate the name of the animal, and they may optionally include their name, country, and social media contact on the back of the card/envelope.
-Mail art may be sent to:
       Mail A Smile
       Budapest
       Pf.:20
       1554-Hungary
More information about it can be found on our website: mailasmile.org
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Micu and Nic
A worthy endeavor that these two friends have undertaken, in my humble opinion. I’m already giving consideration to the endangered species I’d like to represent… maybe I’ll choose the Amur Leopard pictured above. There is a list on their website and they’re highlighting the species as they receive them, in hopes of receiving one or more mail art pieces per animal on the list. Take a look, maybe you’ll be inspired to participate.
Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: Guess Who’s Turning 50?

Turning 50 is a BIG DEAL!

It requires living 5 decades.

That’s half a century!

So, yeah, turning fifty is a BIG DEAL.

We’ve all heard the horror stories of the Fear of Fifty… but I refuse to buy into them.

Because I believe age IS just a number and birthdays should ALWAYS be celebrated, I am determined to own this one with as much JOY and CREATIVITY as I can possibly muster.

The joy of cake and ice cream when you’re six and wearing polka dots!

That’s where YOU come in…

LYNN TURNS 50! Mail Art Call

I am shamelessly and joyfully requesting that you help me celebrate by sending birthday greetings my way in time for the big day.

What to send: A handmade postcard (4×6 inches) to celebrate my 50th Birthday. There is no restriction as to medium, or technique, but I hope you might be inspired by some of my favorite things: color, polka dots, Seth Apter, rust, nature, Maxfield Parrish, surrealism, dada, Marcel Duchamp, collage, Kurt Schwitters, fiber art, books, mixed-media, found objects, assemblages, Joseph Cornell, music, pop art, Andy Warhol, vintage bits, flea market finds, mail art, Ray Johnson, stamps and vintage postage, dark chocolate, coffee, poetry, boho, industrial, shabby chic, trashpo, ephemera, hand lettering, the 1970’s, intuitive art. Just to name a few! 😀

No jury, no returns.

Deadline: June 10, 2017

Send to: Lynn Radford – The Studio at Piney Creek Acres                                              107 Marigold Lane – New Brighton, PA 15066 USA

Note: All pieces received will be featured in a future blog post commemorating the occasion. They may also be documented via Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/lkradford95/

My sincere thanks, in advance, for helping me to celebrate this monumental birthday!
