Monday Morning Mail Art Call: PAIN 2

Image may contain: text

This week’s call is one that really appeals to me. I can’t help but think of the song, “Sucker for Pain” by Suicide Squad.

We all experience pain, at one time or another, in our lives. Some of us experience it more frequently than others and there are many different levels of severity to consider. This call asks us to draw on pain we have experienced, either physical, or emotional to convey a visual depiction of it. It asks us to share something intensely personal with the world in hopes of making a lasting impression on the medical students who will view the exhibit. If you would like to be an instrument of change in this area, read on for details.

The Hoyt Gallery at the USC Keck School of Medicine presents “PAIN2”, a mail in art/postcard show featuring images depicting physical and mental pain.   PAIN2 will run from September 1 – Oct 27, 2017

Our hope is that PAIN2 will give medical students a visual representation of what their future patients will be going though.  We want them to see their patients as people, not just symptoms.  We need you to draw your personal pains.

Deadline for submissions is August 30th, 2017.

PAIN2 is open to all visual artists worldwide.

Artists retain rights to submitted works, but grant Hoyt Gallery the rights to digital reproduction of their submission(s) to include on the Hoyt Gallery webpage, and PAINARTSHOW Facebook page.   www.facebook.com/PainArtShow/

Artists may send their pieces by postal mail to this address:

Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: The Distance

For those of you who were looking for these posts and haven’t seen one since June… I sincerely apologize. I mistakenly thought that I had scheduled MMMAC posts through July. A brain fart, I suppose. I am hoping to remedy the situation beginning with today’s call.

The direction of visual arts of the secretary for culture of the province of Santa Cruz summons visual artists to participate in a mail art exhibition in October 2017 in the city of Río Gallegos. Those interested should send one or more works related to the topic “distance” via postal mail to:

The works will become part of the heritage of the secretary and will also be published on his website. Also, the following information must be attached: name and surname, ID Mail (email) and postal address. Deadline September 1st 2017. Size: 10 x 15 cm In any technique.

Distance. How near? How far? The expanse in between… When we think of distance, we are usually thinking in terms of how far X is from where we are currently located, the distance between two points. I would venture to guess that we think of distance in this manner one or more times a day. But what about the distance in a relationship? The distance in one’s thoughts? An athlete’s distance?

As always, participate if you feel inspired to do so. Deadline: September 1, 2017

Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: Black and White

Black and white is classically striking in most instances. At the very least, it is crisp in its delineation.

This mail art call asks you to play with black and white, to use it to create something small that visually packs a punch.

Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: Raoul Hausmann

One of the most intriguing mail art calls I’ve found in some time, the Raoul Hausmann Anniversary Project’s theme is A Kingdom for Dada.

portrait Raoul Hausmann

You might have guessed that Raoul was a dadaist in his time. Austrian born, he moved to Germany with his family at the age of fourteen. He co-founded Club Dada in Berlin and was involved for a time with Hanna Hoch, another prominent dadaist of the movement. You can read more about him here: http://www.dada-companion.com/hausmann/ and here: http://www.artnewsnviews.com/view-article.php?article=raoul-hausmann-the-dadaist-who-redefined-the-idea-of-protests&iid=33&articleid=980

Please note that the deadline for this one is fast approaching… June 30, 2017.

Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!
